Warner to Offer Uncompressed Audio on Blu-ray Title
Warner Home Video for the first time will incorporate uncompressed audio on one of its Blu-ray Disc titles--the motion picture "The Departed" to be released on Feb. 13. The studio has several titles on HD DVD with Dolby TrueHD audio tracks, but has only provided standard Dolby Digital tracks on its Blu-ray titles, until now.

While the absence of uncompressed audio was said to be due to "technical hurdles" in authoring TrueHD-encoded titles on Blu-ray, a lot of negative response from next-gen early adopters over alleged audio inequities between the studio's Blu-ray and HD DVD titles has prompted the studio to use uncompressed audio with Blu-ray faster than originally intended, according to High-Def Digest.

"The Departed" will hit retailers on HD DVD with the expected Dolby TrueHD track, while the Blu-ray version will feature uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround sound.
