Vermont Station Installs Omneon Spectrum Server
WCAX-TV (Burlington, Vt.), and the CBS affiliate for the state, has implemented Omneon’s
Spectrum media server system for ingest and play-out of three video channels.
The Spectrum server is equipped with two MediaPort 4102 I/O modules to support up- and down-conversion, and is being controlled by Harris automation. Program streams being played out include the station’s main SD and HD broadcast channels, as well as a news and weather channel, WCAXtra.
“With the MediaPort 4102 and TrackTool, Omneon is ahead of everyone else; the rest of the world hasn’t caught up,” said Joe Tymecki, WCAX-TV’s chief engineer. “We ought to know, because we spent a year looking at every server out there. In the end, the Spectrum was the only one that was versatile and flexible enough to provide the playout we needed.”
WCAX-TV is a family-owned station and is the oldest television broadcaster in Vermont. It transmits both syndicated programming and locally-produced content.
