U.S., Mexico Lay Out Border Topics
Mexican and U.S. officials have laid out a plan for the communications issues they’ll address over the next couple of years. FCC chief Julius Genachowski gave his support to three actions coming out of meetings with officials on the U.S.-Mexico High-Level Consultative Commission on Telecommunications.
One is a joint statement about continued coordination of spectrum use along the border, now that the DTV transition is complete in the United States . The regulators also approved a two-year work plan that includes developing an agreement to protect TV stations on Channel 6 from operation of some FMs along the border. It also covers coordination of LPTVs and adjusting channels for full clearance of the 700 MHz band.
