TVB Tech Alert: BluTubing to be Demoed at JavaOne

SAN FRANCISCO: A Burbank, Calif., Blu-ray technology firm will demonstrate streaming content to a Blu-ray Player at the JavaOne conference next month. The company, Dreamer, said it will outline “how to create and deploy private broadcasting channels” for delivering content and interactive apps to TVs using its Java-based Biddle Blu-ray technology.

“We are excited about the opportunity to present the Java developer community with a solution with which they can create their own interactive Blu-ray-to-TV broadcasting channels,” said Dr. Won Baek, president and CEO of Dreamer.

Dreamer says its Biddle technology transforms a Blu-ray player “into a globally accessible HD set-top box.” The technology uses Profile 2.0-compliant, broadband-connected Blu-ray players to enable direct-to-TV broadcasting. Korea Telecom and CJ CableNet use the platform in their respective IPTV operations to deliver interactive TV to more than 1 million subscribers, according to Dreamer, an affiliate of Namsung Corp. of Seoul, South Korea.
