The FCC will schedule a hearing before an administrative law judge to determine whether Eddie Floyd, licensee of an FM translator in Carson City, Nev., is qualified to remain a licensee or whether his license should be revoked.

The action comes as Floyd’s 2006 felony convictions relating to money laundering and “aiding and abetting a felony” comes to light. He apparently failed “to inform the commission about such misconduct,” the agency states in a decision this week.

In 2007, Floyd sought approval from the commission to assign the license to Wilks License Company-Reno LLC, and to make technical modifications to the translator. Three times, he didn’t to tell the commission about his felony convictions when filling out paperwork. The commission takes “lack of candor,” which is “concealment, evasion or other failure to be fully informative, accompanied by intent to deceive,” very seriously, it wrote.

“Floyd had a clear motive for not revealing his felony conviction to the commission — to conceal information that could potentially disqualify him as a commission licensee and block the proposed sale of Floyd’s translator station to Wilks,” the FCC stated.

The date of the proceeding will be released later.

Separately, the FCC fined Floyd $500 for not filing a timely license renewal and operating the station after its authorization had expired.
