Tampa's WTVT Installs First Baron Omni System

Baron Services, a Huntsville, Ala.-based developed and manufacturer of weather radar systems, has announced that WTVT in Tampa, Fla. is the first station to install its high-definition Omni weather graphics system

The Omni uses a combination of true 3D models along with terrain and data-driven animations to provide highly detailed images. The new Baron high-definition radar system is capable of depicting images as detailed as this.

"Baron has a history of introducing market changing technology," said Bob Baron, Baron Services president and CEO. "Five or 10 years ago, this type of technology wasn't possible, but with Omni, viewers will see and understand the complete weather story in an entirely new way."

The blending of superimposed maps and 3D terrain features provides a localized and highly accurate visualization as it is occurring.

"Our station has a reputation as a pioneer in weather forecasting," said Mike McClain, WTVT's news director. "The introduction of Omni is the latest chapter in continuing that legacy."
