T-VIPS Demonstrates 3D HD Video Transport at IBC
Video distribution provider T-VIPS presented their 3D HD video transport technology at this year’s IBC Show, declaring it commercially ready.
During the demonstration, 3D content was compressed in JPEG2000 format by a T-VIPS gateway, transported via IP link, decoded with another gateway and then viewed on a 3D monitor.
Screen Digest analyst Ben Keen cites 3D’s commercial potential, in that 3D movie releases have resulted in three times larger audience numbers than their 2D counterpart. Screen Digest also notes the possibility of up to 64 million 3D television sets sold worldwide by the end of 2012.
