Sony's Next Laptop Comes With Blu-ray
A 17-inch HD widescreen and built-in Blu-ray disc drive will be among the new Sony crop of
fall laptop products.
The Vaio AR20 series will have 1920 x 1200 resolution and an "X-black coating" for higher contrast output than its predecessors. The laptop, joining Sony's established (non-HD) Vaio line, will include an Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor (2 GHz) and 2 GB of RAM.
The Blu-ray drive will play back Blu-ray and standard DVD content, but cannot burn data. HDMI cable will connect the computer to HD sets and large-screen monitors for movies and other programming.
Sony also unveiled its FE30 series in the past week, a laptop with a 15.4-inch widescreen display with "dual lamp" technology to increase brightness and contrast. While a Core 2 Duo processor is optional in this series, alas, a Blu-ray drive is not.
