The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers has announced the appointment of Barbara H. Lange as the organization’s new executive director, effective Jan. 20.

“We are thrilled to have a professional of Barbara’s standing and experience join the SMPTE team,” said Ken Fuller, SMPTE’s president. “Barbara’s vision and proven effectiveness in creating new revenue- generation opportunities and growing membership will stand us in good stead as we execute our strategic plan for aggressive and successful growth--particularly as the applications and markets for motion-imaging technologies expand and proliferate.”

Lange will be responsible for managing SMPTE’s business development and marketing activities, advancing the organization’s charter in establishing technical standards and practices on a global basis, for increasing SMPTE’s overall organization revenue, and for spotting new investment opportunities.

Lange previously served as staff director of product management and business development for the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. She is a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College.
