Singapore: Viewer Competitions Promote HD
The Media Development Authority in Singapore had to pick a way to determine whether HD in this tech-savvy city-state was proving to be popular among consumers. So, it has announced it would declare that Singapore was enjoying a healthy rate of adoption of HD if at least half of all homes in Singapore have HD capabilities within five years.

Still, the MDA said it's confident the region can achieve that 50 percent penetration rate in less than five years. In order to spur already considerable interest in the technology, the government authority plans to hold various competitions around Singapore to promote HD, according to Channel NewsAsia.

For the competition segments, contestants will be recorded in HD and asked to perform in 30-second spots, extolling the attributes of HD.
