Sinclair Extends Retransmission With Dish

HUNT VALLEY, MD.: Sinclair Broadcast Group said it secured an extension of its retransmission agreement with Dish Network. Sinclair (NASDAQ: SBGI) said under deal terms, Dish would continue to carry the signals of SBGI owned and/or operated stations, and those for which it provides programming or sales. The agreement also provides Dish with certain rights to carry local content produced by Sinclair via video-on-demand.

Sinclair did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, but said it would “continue to be compensated by Dish under the agreement.” Sinclair has 58 TV stations in 35 markets reaching about 22 percent of the nation’s TV audience. It made a similar announcement regarding DirecTV about a week ago

Retransmission contributed $21.1 million to Sinclair’s total $131.3 million in revenues for the first quarter of this year. The company posted an $87 million loss on impairment charges of $130 million. Shares of Sinclair closed Friday at $1.76. -- Deborah D. McAdams
