Research Firm Pronounces Advanced Compression Necessary
Confirming something scores of engineers figured out years ago, ABI discovered that advanced video compression is the wave of the future.

The research firm in Oyster, Bay, N.Y. announced this week that AVC and VC-1 will become a standard feature of IP set-top boxes, and appear in "virtually all new STBs by 2008. Furthermore, ABI's researchers said that AVC was the "algorithm of choice" for the DVD and digital broadcast industries," although both sectors have begun to integrate both codecs into new devices.
