FCC Chairman Michael Powell will address top public policy issues facing the consumer technology industry during a "One-on-One" discussion with Consumer Electronics Association President/CEO Gary Shapiro at the 2004 International CES. The session will take place on Friday, Jan. 9.
Powell and Shapiro will discuss the transition to digital television, broadband deployment, consumer home recording rights, spectrum management and other key issues under consideration by the Commission. They also will take a look at issues expected to arise in the coming year.
Members of Congress with a particular focus on technology policy will participate in a congressional panel at the show also on Friday, Jan. 9. CEA Vice President of Technology Policy Michael Petricone will moderate a panel including Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., Sen. Norman Coleman, R-Minn. and Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, as they discuss major technology policy issues facing the new Congress.
The 2004 International CES runs Jan. 8-11 in Las Vegas, Nev. Radio World will have daily, on-site coverage.
