NASA has reportedly chosen a DVB Master FD PCI board from DVEO, the broadcast division of CMI, to send live HD video streams from the International Space Station to the home planet in the near future. The DVB Master FD transmits and receives HD video on a single computer card, according to DVEO.

NASA plans to deliver HD from the orbiting space station to the Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston. JSC serves as the lead center in the design and implementation of the International Space Station--which is a collaborative effort involving 16 nations. The space station celebrated five continuous years of human occupancy.

The space station will implement the Space Video Gateway to send HD signals to Earth. DVEO said NASA believes HD will be especially beneficial for space exploration where objects can be seen better, even in dark environments.
