Madison, WI--A tornado hit the headquarters of MyWeather last Wednesday. The company provides more than 200 television stations such services as severe weather alerts, essential weather information, and personalized weather pages for viewers. These services continued uninterrupted as the tornado pounded the MyWeather facility with debris, broken windows, sheared trees, and blew cars around in the parking lot.
"When we learned that MyWeather headquarters in Madison was hit by the tornado I expected some outages in the homecast service" said Brian Karstens, a meteorologist at KELO-TV in Sioux Falls, SD who uses the service. "As it turns out, their main computer service is housed in a bunker-like facility that protects it from natural disasters."
KELO-TV informed their viewers of the Madison tornado, since many didn't know the online and wireless forecasts they receive everyday are based out of Madison.
In addition to the MyWeather facility (which it shares with sister company Weather Central), several homes and other businesses were damaged in the tornado. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
