Mediacom Asks for FCC Assistance in Retrans Stalemate With Sinclair
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA and NEW YORK:Mediacom has asked regulators for help in a
retransmission deal with Sinclair just as Time Warner Cable reached an
agreement with the suburban Baltimore broadcast group. Mediacom asked the Federal
Communications Commission to prevent Sinclair from pulling two TV stations from
its cable systems at the end of the year, KCRG-TV reports. Mediacom’s carriage
deal with Sinclair for KGAN-TV, the CBS affiliate, and KFXA-TV, the Fox,
expires at the end of the year. KCRG said the two have
been negotiating a new agreement since last April. Sinclair pulled the stations
two years ago in a retrans battle.
Meanwhile, Time Warner Cable entered into a retrans agreement with Sinclair for
carriage of its local stations for another year, The
Wall Street Journal reported. Financial terms of the deal were not
disclosed.
