Media Monitors Data Shed Light on Chicago

Broadcast monitoring and verification service provider Media Monitors has put its data spotlight on the Chicago market.

According to financial analyst Jim Boyle of Gilford Securities, who is now contributing to a newsletter article for Media Monitors, ad spending in Chicago for the month of February totaled $211 million in print, radio and television, with the number of total advertisements reaching just under 900,000. Media Monitors uses the Boyle articles to promote uses of its broadcast content recognition process.

These figures cover Chicago’s 52 media outlets.

The top 10 radio stations accounted for $15.1 million of the $211 million total, with WLIT(FM) in first with $3.5 million on its own. Radio advertising for the top 20 local stations amounted to 170,040 spots, with WBBM(AM) crowning first with roughly 13,000 spots.

Across the board, AM stations led in total ads, claiming five of the top six places, while FM stations brought in significantly more money, holding all of the top six ranks in terms of dollar amounts.

Boyle profiled January Boston ad trends earlier.
