Indy's WRTV-TV Goes Local HD
WRTV-TV, the ABC affiliate in Indianapolis (DMA No. 25) today began broadcasting its local news, sports and weather in 720p this week, thus joining the growing list of local broadcasters to localize their HD offerings.
The McGraw Hill Broadcasting property (branded as "RTV6") follows two local competitors into the local HD realm, which is now transmitting local news in 1080i: WTHR-TV, a Dispatch station affiliated with NBC; and Lin outlet WISH-TV, the market's CBS affiliate.
WRTV-TV has been featuring a blog on its
Web site to give viewers periodic updates on its HD efforts behind the scenes.
There are currently about 135 broadcasters airing local news in HD in nearly 70 markets, according to all available sources.
