The 59th Annual IEEE Broadcast Symposium is scheduled for October 14–16 at the Westin Hotel in Alexandria, Va., outside of Washington.

Of interest to radio broadcast engineers will be several HD Radio-flavored sessions: “Modern FM and IBOC Coverage Measurement Techniques at NPR Labs” with John Kean of NPR Labs; “Results of the Field Trials for IBOC at Increased. Power Levels” with Russ Mundschenk of iBiquity; “IBOC Signal Quality Measurements” from David L. Hershberger, Continental Electronics; and “Building a Real-World HD Radio Application” by Paul Brenner of the Broadcast Traffic Consortium.

Much of the symposium will be devoted to DTV issues but besides the digital radio events, a few other sessions may offer temptation, especially in the antenna technology field. Attendance at some sessions may also qualify for Continuing Education Units (CEU) for professional engineer licensing.
