IBiquity Says Portable Sales ‘Exceed Expectations,’ Cites Supply Shortages
When is a product shortage welcome news? When you’re iBiquity Digital and you’re talking about sales of the latest receiver.

The HD Radio developer said sales of the new Insignia armband HD Radio portable sold by Best Buy have “exceeded expectations” in the model’s first two weeks on the market, though the company did not name a specific figure. We’re betting iBiquity is not unhappy to report that units seem to be showing some legs off the retail shelf.

It said there are shortages in some Best Buy locations and notes the device is on backorder at bestbuy.com. “Best Buy is working hard to get more devices available to consumers ASAP,” iBiquity stated in a newsletter.

Radio stations have been giving away the units in promotions, and the HD Radio Alliance commercial campaign highlights the product in ads airing on more than 600 stations in 100 markets, according to the technology developer.

The Insignia NS-HD01 portable player has a built-in, rechargeable Lithium-ion battery that can be charged through a computer USB, wall, or car charger; a color LCD screen, 10 presets, and a 3.5 mm jack output. An armband and USB cable is included.

RW’s Leslie Stimson reported recently on her experience with the unit in stationary and mobile environments.

One store does not make an entire concept's sales and potential. With so much investment on the line, what else could they say?

Little tidbit - the Best Buys carried about 5 per store, and mainly broad professionals bough the portbles.

Sales people at the local best buy here said the units flew off the shelves. Looks like HD Radio is gaining momentum!

Another "load of crap" and hyped-up iBiquity announcement. Honesty has never been an iBiquity hallmark. When your product is hanging on the shelf right next to the $15 CD players I guess you feel pretty good if you sell one.
