HD Radio to be Standard on Cadillac CUE
HD Radio technology
will debut on the Cadillac XTS as a standard feature of the automaker’s
Cadillac User Experience system, arriving at dealerships in spring 2012.
With the news,
Cadillac said it will become the first U.S. auto manufacturer to offer HD Radio
technology as standard equipment.
Cadillac Product
Director Hampden Tener said HD Radio is an excellent addition to CUE, which
will provide consumers with a “groundbreaking user experience for connectivity
and control.”
CUE’s audio
functions also include analog AM/FM, integrated iPod/MP3/smartphone media
player connectivity, multidevice music indexing, SiriusXM, and applications
such as Pandora.
OnStar controls are
also accessible through the CUE touchscreen.
Program Service Data
is transmitted as part of the HD Radio signal. PSD information such as song
title and artist will display on the CUE audio screen. Audio can be paused up
to 20 minutes, allowing users to resume the program if they interrupt the audio
while driving.
In the Cadillac CUE
system, HD Radio also features iTunes Tagging, which allows listeners to tag
their favorite songs for later preview and purchase on iTunes.
With this
announcement, HD Radio technology is or will be available as a factory
installed feature on 23 automotive brands, according to iBiquity Digital.
