HD Coming to a Gas Pump Near You
Avocent Corp. has partnered with Gas Station TV, a digital signage marketing firm, to provide video content integrated into gas station pumps at the retail level. The typical motorist may not spend more than a few minutes a week standing at the gas pump, but you do have to admit--they would be a captive audience.

Avocent said its wireless HD distribution technology eliminates the need to install additional wiring to deliver news and advertising content to pump displays. According to GSTV, consumers spend an average of four-and-a-half minutes at the gas pump "with nothing to do." Using Avocent's wireless HD technology allows the companies to reach those idle consumers while refueling, GSTV said.

Avocent said its Emerge MPX1000 media distribution system can stream "HD computer graphics or video" and audio from a single source to up to eight display devices. The extender device supports VGA and HDMI/DVI digital video and audio signals.
