HBO Upgrades to EEG HD Caption System
HBO has selected digital next-gen closed captioning equipment from EEG Enterprises for upgrading the proprietary network’s multiple movie service channels to HD. The Farmingdale, N.Y.-based firm is building digital infrastructure to enable it to distribute more than two dozen HBO and Cinemax feeds in HD MPEG-4 within the next year.

EEG’s HD480 Smart Encoder V HD/SD Closed Caption Servers will be used in the project, with technology that is designed to provide encoding and upconversion, along with the real-time relocation of captions. The EEG system also is geared to allowing secured IP delivery of captioning data, and audio, to off-site captioneers.

The EEG equipment recently was installed at HBO’s production and postproduction facilities in Manhattan, as well as the premium pay-network’s origination and transmission facility in Hauppauge, N.Y.
