WJFK(FM) is using Harris gear to support its HD Radio channels, including what is believed to be the first HD4 channel.

Harris has provided an HD Radio transmission system to the CBS station, including its HPX30 transmitter and FlexStar multicasting solution to support the first HD4 multicast channel and to operate at the recently approved higher HD Radio power level of –14 dBc.

Harris field service engineers helped to install and launch the new system.

The Harris FlexStar solution includes the HDE-100 importer v4.3, which the manufacturer believes is the first importer on the market to accommodate HD4 multicast streams. Recent upgrades to the Harris importer play an integral role in enabling the quadcast from WJFK’s existing HD Radio transmitter/multicast solution.

The FlexStar system also includes the HDE-200 embedded program exporter and HDx exciter. The HDx exciter adds real-time adaptive correction technology to prevent signal interference, deliver cost-effective linear amplification, and increase power efficiencies for lower operating costs, according to the supplier.
