General Motors to Expand XM Satellite Radio to 44 Models
Accelerating the satellite radio technology rollout, GM will offer XM Satellite Radio on 44 of 57 GM models in model year 2004. This represents more than three-quarters of GM's fleet.
In November 2001, GM began offering XM as a factory-installed option on two models of 2002 Cadillacs. For the 2003 model year, GM expanded to 25 car, truck and SUV models, and Cadillac was the first division to offer XM across its entire product portfolio.
Among new models offering XM are several GM vehicles that recently debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, including the Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx, Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size pick-ups. XM will also be available on GM's SUVs including the Chevy Trailblazer, GMC Envoy and the new Buick Rainier.
"Our early research among GM vehicle owners with XM revealed that over 90 percent would either 'only buy a vehicle with XM' or would 'prefer to buy with XM' when they next shop for a vehicle," said John F. Smith, group vice president of GM Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing.
