Gefen Extender Transmits Video via Fiber for Remote HD
Gefen is making available its new
DVI FM Extender, designed to enable HD video (and high-res PC) sources viewable without image degradation for up to about 200 feet from the content source.
Resolutions up to 1080p can be delivered over a single multimode fiber optic cable. The extender has plug-and-play capabilities that are designed to provide relatively simple output systems suitable for digital signage, on-site entertainment, medical use, church productions, and government needs.
The extender taps into fiber to transmit uncompressed HD video with HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection) compliance, Gefen said. The HD extender package includes small sender and receiver modules (3.5 by 1.5 inches each), a DVI connector cable, and a system power supply.
Also included is a connection detector (dubbed "DVI Detective") that's designed to maintain a consistent signal between the video EDID signal and the end point.
