Gannett Wins 65 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards
Five broadcast stations were among Overall Excellence winners
MCLEAN, VA.—Gannett Co., Inc. says 21 of its media organizations won a combined 65 regional 2014 Edward R. Murrow awards.

Gannett Broadcast won 58 awards and U.S. Community Publishing won seven awards in the competition sponsored by the Radio Television Digital News Association, which honors achievements in electronic journalism.

“Winning 65 regional Edward R. Murrow awards is a great achievement and highlights the outstanding work being done in our local communities,” said Gracia Martore, Gannett president and CEO.

Five broadcast stations, along with the Burlington Free Press, were among those winning the award for Overall Excellence, the highest award given. Other awards recognized excellence in reporting, feature reporting, sports, newscast, news documentary as well as several other categories.

Gannett Overall Excellence award winners:

  • KTVB — Boise, Idaho (six awards)
  • WGRZ — Buffalo, N.Y. (five awards)
  • The Burlington Free Press — Burlington, Vt. (five awards)
  • WBIR — Knoxville, Tenn. (six awards)
  • WWL — New Orleans (two awards)
  • KSDK — St. Louis (three awards)

    Other winning Gannett properties include:

  • WXIA — Atlanta (six awards)
  • WCNC — Charlotte, N.C. (two awards)
  • WLTX — Columbia, S.C.
  • WFAA — Dallas (three awards)
  • KUSA — Denver (four awards)
  • The News-Press — Fort Myers, Fla.
  • WZZM — Grand Rapids, Mi. (three awards)
  • KHOU — Houston
  • KARE — Minneapolis (six awards)
  • WVEC — Norfolk, Va.
  • WCSH — Portland, Maine
  • Reno Gazette-Journal — Reno, Nev.
  • KING — Seattle (six awards)
  • KREM — Spokane, Wash.
  • WUSA — Washington
