Fisher Communications is using Omneon Spectrum servers in a shared master control configuration, according to a release from the Sunnyvale, Calif. vendor.
Omneon said three of Fisher’s CBS affiliate stations and four of its Univision affiliates share a remote master control facility in Seattle. Advanced Broadcast Solutions, a system integrator in Seattle, coordinated the project linking KIMA and KFFZ in Yakima, KEPR in Pasco, and KVVK in Kennewick, Wash.; KLEW in Lewiston and KUNB in Boise, Idaho; and KUNP in Portland, Ore.
Ads and programming is distributed to the stations via a 12-channel Spectrum system housing 300 hours of 12 Mbps MPEG-2 content, Omneon said. Smaller Spectrum systems perform local edge transmission at each station, allowing them to send local and interstitial pieces back to the Seattle mothership. The edge servers also provide redundancy for the main master control. The whole shebang is controlled by Sundance Digital automation software.
