The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission are planning an emergency alerting workshop at the FCC on June 10.

The workshop will highlight the status of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, including the next-generation Emergency Alert System and the Commercial Mobile Alert System. The public meeting will also provide federal agencies a chance to get feedback on issues related to these systems and the FCC’s proceeding on next-gen alerting. The upcoming national EAS test and its relevance to legacy EAS and to next-generation systems are on the agenda, as will the parallel efforts of FEMA and commercial wireless carriers.

Broadband, and specifically how the Internet can be used in distributing alerts using e-mail, websites and social networking, will be discussed.
