The CPB has awarded a $1.5 million grant to establish the Center for Native American Radio, a service bureau; it will provide technical, fundraising and programming support to 30 public stations that target Native American listeners.
"The center will play an important role in seeing that un-served Native audiences have access to Native programs," said Jacqlyn Salee, president and CEO of KNBA/Koahnic Broadcasting Corp. in Anchorage, Alaska.
"Building strong, vibrant Native stations on reservations and in villages in Alaska will assure Native perspectives and voices are heard more widely."
The National Federation of Community Broadcasters will oversee the center. An advisory board of Native American station and community leaders will have input.
