Comcast Rolls Out its First HD Production Truck
Comcast SportsNet has, Comcast SportsNet has purchased a 53-foot-long "Comcast SportsNet HDTV" HD mobile production facility to cover sports in HD in Philadelphia, Washington and Baltimore. The truck was built by the San-Jose, Calif-based Sony Electronics' System Integration Center.
The Sony-built mobile unit will be used to simultaneously transmit game coverage in SD and HD. It has 200 video monitors, equipped with three 42-inch plasma displays and 10 hand-held studio and robotic HD cameras.
The truck is scheduled to produce about 200 HD professional games in 2003. Its first run will be a Feb. 15 broadcast of the Philadelphia Flyers and the Carolina Hurricanes before moving down to D.C. to cover the Washington Wizards and the Toronto Raptors Feb. 17.
