Colossus chosen for flagship SABC channels
South African Broadcasting Corp. (SABC) has installed OmniBus Systems' Colossus to handle automation for its upgraded Johannesburg playout facility. Colossus will be used to provide transmission of the South African national broadcaster's three premium channels, SABC 1, 2 and 3, along with a spare channel for training.

The Colossus system controls Omneon servers and provides an automated workflow with cache management and G3 desktops for more flexible, component-based functionality.

According to Manny Coelho, manager of Broadcast Facilities at SABC, the installation of Colossus comes "as part of our planned program of upgrades designed to future-proof our facility."

He added: "Colossus offers highly configurable workflows and a flexible user environment that will allow us to tailor our operations as requirements change and evolve."
