Also on Radio World's Who's Buying What page: Broadcast Electronics said its broadband Big Pipe system is in use as a 5 GHz STL at Clear Channel in Minneapolis, where it successfully weathered a summer of Midwest storms.
The broadband transport unit operates in the 5.3 GHz UNII band, which does not require a license, for reaching up to seven miles point-to-point or in the 5.8 GHz UNII band for up to 40 miles.
Clear Channel is using the unit to transport programming of four stations from studios in St. Louis Park, Minn., to a transmitter site in Shoreview, 12 miles away. BE said the unit is saving the company around $30,000 a year in leased-line costs associated with T1 and equalized circuit lines.
