CES: Ford ‘Hearts’ Clear Channel in Vegas
No doubt making Clear Channel executives smile, Ford
announced it is the first car company to provide access to the iHeartRadio app
using voice control. Access is through its Sync AppLink, which is in 10 car
models in the 2012 model year.
The announcement was made here at CES in Las Vegas
by Julius Marchwicki, Ford’s Sync product manager,
and Brian Lakamp, president of Clear Channel
Digital.
The app can be accessed using controls on the
steering wheel or voice commands. “The app lets drivers use voice commands to
find exactly what they want to listen to by saying ‘genre,’ ‘city’ or ‘personality’
to search by type of music and location of station or host,” Ford stated, “saving
time and energy that would normally be used repeatedly turning the dials.
Users can connect to Facebook Timelines to share
music with others. Drivers can also ask the system to “recommend stations” or
use the “my stations” command to listen to their presets or customized
stations.
