Broadcasters Are 'Effective Custodians of Our Nation's Airwaves'(3)

"Our national priorities should recognize the value that free over-the-air broadcasting brings to every American."

Gordon Smith, the new president/CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters, was on familiar ground — Capitol Hill — last week, when the former senator testified before the House Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet, discussing spectrum allocation and broadband matters.

"With each additional viewer, a broadcaster's use of spectrum becomes more efficient, without any additional burden on the spectrum," Smith said.

"By contrast, with wireless broadband, each stream of content to every individual places an additional strain on the wireless network, clogging up more bandwidth."

NAB has posted the transcript; read it here.

"Our national priorities should recognize the value that free over-the-air broadcasting brings to every American." Wow - What an amazing admission! This guy's full of crap. He's willing to throw millions of radio listeners under the bus in favor digital radio - something which consumers have shown absolutely no interest in. Who does he think he's kidding?
