Brillian Offers 65-Inch, Six-Megapixel LCOS HD
LCOS (Liquid Crystal On Silicon) display supplier
Brillian has introduced a 65-inch HD set that reportedly provides a contrast ratio of 4000:1 and what Brillian is calling the highest fidelity images currently available in any LCOS rear-projection TV.
The huge monitor (model #6580iFB) uses 3 two-megapixel micro-displays to achieve a resolution of 1920-by-1080. Each of the micro-displays in the three-panel light engine is dedicated to a single color, resulting in what Brillian says is a true six-megapixel image.
The display provides 12-bit grayscale and supports a full range of video and media center/PC resolutions, with a response time of 7 milliseconds. According to published reports, features also include advanced motion-adaptive de-interlacing and scaling, 3:2 pull-down detection, and digital noise reduction.
Brillian is scheduled to begin shipment in a couple of months with a MSRP of about $8,000. LG Electronics also recently announced production of a 71-inch 1080p LCOS screen. No MSRP has yet been announced by LG.
