Blackmagic's Multibridge Extreme Does 2K
At Siggraph 2006 in Boston this week, Blackmagic Design teamed up with 1 Beyond to demonstrate 2K and real-time 10 bit HD on Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0. Blackmagic Design showcased the workflow on Multibridge Extreme using 1 Beyond's new OctoFlex 8 processor professional workstation and IntelliRaid FC-XPR.

OctoFlex handles uncompressed 2K and 4K film, multiple layers of uncompressed real-time effects and high-resolution HD projects in Windows XP. 1 Beyond's IntelliRaid FC-XPR features 16 SATA2 drives with RAID 6 protection and dual 4 Gigabit Fibre, which can achieve more than 500 Mbps or over 1 Gbps aggregate, in a SAN configuration. Multibridge Pro is an HD/SD editing solution with PCI Express that instantly transforms into a standalone converter when disconnected from the computer.

The combination of the two systems feature 1.75 TB high performance storage, 2 GB memory, 5.1 surround sound speakers, 24 inch high resolution (1920 x 1200) LCD monitor, wireless KB and optical mouse, Adobe Premiere Pro version 2.0, and all HD, SD, and video and audio analog connections using Multibridge Pro.

1 Beyond is a Somerville, Mass.-based manufacturer of professional PC-based video editing systems.
