AT&T Adds HD Markets, Misses U-verse Target
While AT&T did not quite achieve its goal to provide its "U-verse TV" in at least 15 markets by the end of 2006, it did grow its services (including some HD channels) beyond its startup markets in San Antonio and Houston to four Indiana markets in the past week: Indianapolis, Anderson, Bloomington and Muncie.

The Indiana additions bring AT&T's fledgling TV service to nearly a dozen markets, albeit it in limited areas in some regions. For example, in the Indianapolis Designated Market Area, U-verse TV is not readily available within the city limits itself. But it is being advertised as available for some surrounding communities in the DMA, such as the towns of Beech Grove, Carmel, Fishers, Greenwood, Lawrence and Noblesville, according to Multichannel News.

Beyond Texas and Indiana, other areas where AT&T has rolled out U-verse TV (bringing total penetration to 11 market areas) are four cities near San Francisco and San Jose, Calif., as well as parts of the Connecticut DMAs of New Haven, Stamford and Hartford. AT&T is currently planning to grow its TV services to at least 13 states in its initial stages, although some communities are requiring cable franchise fees before deployment can begin. (The telco contends it is not a traditional cable TV service, and is fighting such fees.)
