ATSC Audio Summit Set for Feb. 19
The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) will hold its 2008 Audio Summit Feb. 19 at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The event will be held in conjunction with the HPA Technology Retreat, Feb. 20-22.

The seminar will be an opportunity for interested members of the media production, postproduction and broadcasting communities to attend informative presentations, discussions and demonstrations on AC-3 audio, particularly loudness issues.

Presenters are all audio professionals that are active in the industry and very familiar with the work the ATSC has accomplished for digital broadcast sound, according to ATSC.

The Audio Summit will run from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and include discussions of broadcast audio challenges in the real-world, mix room monitoring, and measurement techniques.

“Sound is an important part of the digital television experience and the industry needs to address strategies that can be utilized to optimize audio services,” said Mark Richer, ATSC president. “The Audio Summit is a great opportunity to learn about the challenges related to the production, distribution, transmission and reception of high quality digital sound.”
