If you think all one needs for a festive Halloween is “Monster Mash” on the stereo and a bowl of fun-size candy bars at the door, think again.

ABC News Radio is offering a special series for use during the Halloween season beginning Oct. 23. The five-part series, “The ABCs of Halloween 2007,” takes listeners behind the scenes and explores what they need to know to have a festive Halloween, according to ABC. The series looks at the ways the classic tale, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” lives on, and the psychology of fear — why do we like to get scared and what happens physiologically to our bodies when we do?

Additional highlights include, for the older trick-or-treaters, a look at a “freak and fetish” ball, where the bizarre is the norm; and for the little guys, a breakdown of the most popular costumes and ways to stay safe while hitting the streets for candy.
