Canada's Global Television Network placed an order for
Front Porch Digital's DIVArchive system content storage management (CSM) as part of a larger project to reconfigure its production workflow from centralised to regional playout hubs.
The project is set for completion next year and will deliver an innovative new workflow to enable Global TV to improve operations and make its transition to HD.
DIVArchive will be implemented at four of Global TV's regional broadcast centres, all linked with high-speed connectivity. The four centres, located in Vancouver (CHAN), Toronto (CIII), Edmonton (CITV), and Calgary (CICT), will ingest and play out digital news content produced by the broadcaster's 14 stations. Under the new workflow, each broadcast centres will have the capacity to process up to five times the content it currently handles.
The system will interface with a
Thomson Grass Valley digital newsroom system, allowing editors located anywhere on the network to browse, call up, edit, share, and distribute files across the production centres as well as Global Television's smaller stations. In addition, DIVArchive will enable repurposing of programming for multimodal distribution including the Web and mobile phones.
"We selected DIVArchive because it serves as a single, unifying platform that allows us to manage our news content," said Geoff Franklin, Global Television's manager of digital asset management. "This capability makes DIVArchive unique and, when compared with other systems, represents significant cost savings for us."
