Peru Postpones Recommendation for Terrestrial DTV Standard

by Doug Lung, 09.26.2008

A rough translation from the Portugal Digital article Peru vai avaliar padrão da TV digital brasileira indicates that Peru's Ministry of Transportation and Communications is delaying its recommendation for Peru's terrestrial DTV standard until early next year—90 days from October 2008. The delay was requested by Chinese and Brazilian embassies to allow testing of DMB-T and ISDB-T with the Brazilian enhancements under the same test conditions as the other standards.

Peru is currently conducting tests using ATSC, DVB-T and ISDB -T standards in Arequipa and Cusco provinces. DTV deployment is scheduled to start in 2009, with the analog shutdown occurring sometime during the next 15 years.
