Shining Technology Flashes Tiny CitiDisk

09.24.2008

At IBC, Shining Technology unveiled its new CitiDisk FlashMem, which the company bills as "the world's smallest, lightest solid-state hard disk for digital video recording."

The battery-operated unit can be easily attached to almost any FireWire-equipped DV, HDV or HD video camera. It has no moving parts, features 80 percent lower power consumption than conventional hard drives and can perform in high altitude conditions, extreme cold weather and in situations with high levels of vibration.

The CitiDisk FlashMem has 32 GB of storage and can provide up to 140 minutes of recording time. It operates for up to three hours on internal batteries, and up to six hours with an external power pack. The storage unit can be accessed directly for editing by many NLEs, including Final Cut Pro, Avid, Canopus, Adobe, Matrox and Sony Vegas.
