‘Godfather’ Coming to Blu-ray
(Editor’s Note: This item flows better if you hum the “Godfather” theme to yourself as you read it...)

Francis Ford Coppola said he plans to release the three-disc trilogy of his “Godfather” cinema saga on Blu-ray Disc on Sept. 23, the same release day that new standard-DVD versions of the three individual films hit store shelves. The director said he spent more than a year working on a meticulous digitization process for all three films, which included the use of new original source material.

The trilogy to be released by Paramount and Coppola’s Zoetrope Studios—to be known as “The Godfather Collection”—for now will only be released as a Blu-ray package. It will contain the original, “The Godfather,” the highly acclaimed sequel, “The Godfather Part II,” and the widely panned final chapter, “The Godfather Part III,” which was filmed many years after the first two movies.

The specs for each of the three films will include BD-50 dual-layer 1080p, and high-resolution audio tracks in English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround, according to High-Def Digest, as well as optional Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English and French.

A fourth disc in the collection package will include several hours of bonus material, much of it presented in HD, according to Paramount and Zoetrope.
